"Narrows" does not describe this book, however, for his presentation of the creatures is broader than many dinosaur books for children, including one hundred dinosaurs and other prehistoric reptiles of all sizes. As in Giants, the illustrations here portray the dinosaurs to scale in relation to one another, and in relation to the five-foot-tall young people shown crawling on, swimming with, or simply admiring these creatures. The scale relationships are explained in the book's introduction, as is the arrangement of the book itself. Each entry creates a vivid picture of each dinosaur, and includes the basics (size, time period, scientific classification, etc.) along with newer theories and discoveries. Smaller dinosaurs rate equally with more familar prehistoric giants such as T. Rex and Apatosaurus. The writing style, the book's arrangement, and the pictures invite readers to browse, especially the illustrations of oversized dinosaurs, which continue over spreads of two and three pages. Only the family tree is difficult to understand, although reading the introduction first and checking terms in the glossary help.
