This book addresses two problems facing the increasing number of scholars of Chinese art and artists. First, there is no recent definitive first reference book on Chinese artists, collectors, and connoisseurs except those written in Chinese. Second, the vast majority of researchers in this field cannot readily read Chinese. Thus Part I, the Master Dictionary, is a sourcebook for artist information and identification. Part II presents a simple methodology for identifying characters by a modified stroke counting system.
